The Archbishop Buechlein Leadership Award was established in 2022 to honor members of our community who have given significant contributions of time, talent, and treasure over the years. Named for St. Benedict at Auburndale's founder, Archbishop Daniel M. Buechlein, O.S.B., this award serves as a reminder to our community of our appreciation to those who give so much to sustain the mission of a Catholic, CoEd, College Prep education. This award is presented each year at our annual Benefactors Breakfast.
Amy and Steve Iovinelli are dedicated, committed SBA Alumni parents who believe in Catholic education. They have four SBA Alums - Michael '22, Christina '21, John '18, and Gina '16. Steve and Amy have been significant donors to SBA since the start of their children's time at SBA.
Amy was an active member of the Home and School Association for ten years, dating to when her daughter Gina started at SBA. Amy was integral in many events that positively impacted our school community over those ten years. Two that stand out are the Fashion Show, an annual fundraiser that was successful for many years, and Project Graduation, a safe and fun event that provides a drug and alcohol-free post-graduation party for all graduating SBA seniors. Amy has an incredible ability to take something, build it and make it better, which is what she did with the Fashion Show and Project Graduation.
Amy has a true gift for connecting with people and getting people involved for the benefit of the school. Amy has given much of her time and talents to SBA; Gretchen Hollingsworth our current Home and School President said the following about Amy, "Amy's countless hours with the St. Benedict home and school association benefited so many teachers, faculty, and students in such a positive way year after year. She was involved in orchestrating and coordinating almost every event and did it with a smile every single time. She was an endless resource to me and others, and I continue to bug her to this day when I have an SBA home and school question." We are grateful to Amy and Steve for their investment in SBA's students, faculty, and staff.
Paul and Shannon Schuhlein are dedicated benefactors who care deeply about St. Benedict. All three children attended SBA - Katherine '08, Colin '10, and Christopher '14. The Schuhlein's first gift to SBA was in 2004 and has continued to support SBA with 17 consecutive years of giving. We are deeply grateful for their financial generosity over the many years. The Schuhlein's have also been instrumental in the process for appointments to the Naval Academy for SBA students serving as Blue and Gold officers in the Naval Academy Admissions office.
Shannon has given countless hours to the library for which she has a particular affinity; Library Director Paul Bryant said the following,
"Shannon's gift of service to the SBA Library has so many aspects that they all cannot be conveyed. Shannon's willingness to volunteer makes her an invaluable member of the SBA library staff. She is generous in her time dedicated to the library. She will do any job that needs to be done. Shannon shares her knowledge and experience of books and the library environment to help the students and teachers to be the best they can be and to have resources that will benefit them the most. She has a knack for finding resources for students and teachers and donating them to the library. Her insight into any idea is invaluable because she sees things no one sees. Her question is usually, "Is there anything you need?" she shares the gifts of her time, her talent, and her treasure to help the St. Benedict library be the best it can be for all patrons. The library would not be the same without her, and I can never thank her enough."
We are grateful to Shannon and Paul Schuhlein for their investment in SBA students, faculty, and staff.
